| SITE COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 6, 2006 Humboldt Senior High Site Council Minutes Present: Valerie Atkinson (Staff Co-chair), Kari Denissen (Community), John Hines (Parent), Andy Mosca (Parent), Allison Guggisberg (Guest on behalf of Derby Campo), Becki Hamilton (Parent Co-chair), Diane Schroepfer (Staff), Marilyn Mauritz (Staff), Bonnie Bellows (Staff), Mike Sodomka (AP), Jackie Lundgren (Alternate, Non-Teaching), Lauren Rekonen (Staff), Mai Tong Vang (Student), Stoney Wilson (Student), Joe Laconic (Teaching Staff), Sam Buffington (WSCO), Andrew Purtell (Student), Jennifer Purtell (parent), Kandy Hedlund (Parent), Preston McMillan (Staff Union) I. Approval of Agenda Approval of agenda so moved by Bonnie B., seconded by John H (Unanimous). II. Approval of Approval of the minutes so moved by Becky M, seconded by Bonnie B (Unanimous). III. Open Forum Allison: Gear Up will be ending with the class of 2006. Gear up is now starting back in the Junior High and will re-enter the Senior High as those students move up. Will have a Gear-Up reunion and offering gift cards to college bookstores. John: Senior Class Party last Monday Night and very successful. Michael Schulze Network Tech, put in a whole night and has been at a lot of events. He goes above and beyond and the site council should draft a letter of recognition. John H. will draft a letter for the August meeting. IV. Installation of new members and positions. Nominated for teaching staff: Joe Laconic Nominated for teaching staff alternate: Marilyn Mauritz Non-teaching nominations: Valerie Atkinson, and Tim Hausker. Non-teaching Alternates: · Bonnie Bellows, Dave Mergens and Lauren Rekonen, will continue on the council. Parent position: John Hines must be re-nominated. · Jennifer Purtell, Kandy Hedlund, and Andy Mosca will continue on the council. Community postion: Sam Buffington has been nominated. · Gilbert De La O is not here and we are not sure of his intent so that would be an open community slot and an open alternate spot still remains Motion to approve nominations of: Joe L teaching staff, Marilyn M. teaching alternate, Tim H. and Valerie A. as non-teaching members, Motion to approve nomination of John H. to parent position so moved by Jennifer P and seconded by Kandy H. (Unanimous) Motion to approve nomination of Sam Buffington so moved by Mike S, seconded by Becky H. Unanimous. We must nominate a new secretary and two co-chairs. Election of secretary: must attend meetings and be committed. If you can not attend, must call ahead to arrange someone to fill the role. Secretary takes the minutes on a laptop. Nomination of Lauren R. to the secretary position, seconded by John H. Unanimous. (John H. will take minutes in August) Nomination of John H, seconded by Kandy H Nomination of Valerie A, seconded by Bonnie B. Motion to accept the nomination of John and Valerie as co-chairs made by Kari D, seconded by Kandy H. (Unanimous). Valerie handed out new member packets and explained their contents. V. Approval of 2006-2007 Site Council meeting dates Sept 11th, Oct 9th, Nov 13th, Dec 11th, Jan 8th, Feb 12th, Mar 12th, Apr 9th and or Apr. 30th (SCIP), May 7th, June 11th, Aug 13th (dates are the second Monday of every month) Motion to approve above dates so moved by Jennifer, seconded by Bonnie B. (Unanimous) VI. Second Shift initiative and Youth Commission (Kari) The City of VII. Principal’s Report -Last school board meeting: 1.4 million allocated to Humboldt’s field improvements and interested in considering additional support for Humboldt. Andy Mosca is interested in serving on school district’s capital improvements budget committee. -Staff going out to Boys and Girls Club monthly -ELL students going down to Neighborhood House to work with new immigrants. -Had a presence in the Cinco de Mayo parade -9th grade academy went out to EcoLab to meet their e-mentors. -Successful band concert last week -All-night party went well and was successful -Graduation at Aldrich Arena was much more intimate. The school auditorium is not sufficient because each student is given 20 tickets. -Explained some of the positions that will be cut due to funding. -Humboldt may be starting a program for students with Autism. -We are cutting a ½ time social studies position and hiring for a vacant full-time social studies teacher. -There will be a lot of training opportunities this summer, including AVID -The Superintendent visited for Humboldt for about 20min and will visit for about 1 day in late fall. -The Superintendent will use her first 90days to restructure the school district -There was some vandalism of school security property which caused $3,000 in damage. The cameras will be moved to a better location. -Jim Walsh from the Star Tribune will be writing a story on Humboldt to come out on the last day of school. He talked to a parent, teachers and students. -Senior high good-bye assembly was very moving and was a great event. -The time of John B. return is uncertain. He does not have a doctor’s okay. -West Wing publication is out, showcase of student work. Comes out yearly. -Student population for next year is 804, 10% is projected not to come which knocks us down in 700’s. We are projected to have 803. VIII.
