Welcome to Humboldt Senior High School!  We look forward to educating your child and we will continue to work to ensure a quality education in our school.

Since last school year, Humboldt Senior has updated the carpet and tile in the corridors, installed permanent locks on the lockers, installed artificial turf on the athletic field, and installed additional security cameras and installed a WeatherBug® system.  We are working to improve Humboldt on many levels.

We expect all of our students to graduate from Humboldt and be prepared for life after high school, whether its college, a career or the military.  Humboldt Senior High School has more college access programs than any other school in St. Paul.  Please encourage your student to take advantage of these programs.  We had a nearly 10% increase in participation in these programs last year and expect this to continue!

Humboldt Senior High did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), as measured by the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments-II (MCA-II).  Our 10th and 11th graders were not proficient on the math are reading portions of the MCA-IIs.  Our teachers are working to better align their curriculum to these assessments and we are providing after school extended day classes for all students to provide additional support.  Because we did not make AYP, you will be receiving a letter from the District offering you the opportunity to transfer to another high school.  Please recognize we have put interventions in place to address our state scores and we will continue to address our needs.  We want your child to remain part of the Humboldt family.  If you have questions or concerns please call me at 651.293.8600 ext. 1017.

Finally, former principal, John Bianchi, retired.  For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve was the assistant principal at Humboldt Senior beginning in 2002 and was acting principal since February 2005.  I’ve taught students with emotional/behavioral disorders in Saint Paul and surrounding suburbs for eight years and was an administrative intern for one year.  I have high expectations for Humboldt and expect us to exceed them.  I look forward to working with you and your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 651.293.8600 ext. 1017

Sincerely,

Mike Sodomka

Principal
