V. Site Council Goal Setting for 2006-07

  • Phase two for planning and ensuring phase one is completed
  • Need to keep presence before the Board meetings as needed.
  • Need to work to maintain a sound academic school, by showing the school board what we are doing to improve academics.
  • Increase parent involvement
  • Increase community outreach
  • Develop a process for hiring a principal for 2007-08 and we will present this to District staff
    • Valerie will examine what we did when we hired John Bianchi

We know the building is not attractive which will help in recruiting, but we need to maintain sound academics if we want to get the support of the Board.

We need to get parents involved at Humboldt, continually recruit for involvement through activities (extra curricular and otherwise), also need to get community involved more so.  Mergens and Hauskers will approach Girl Scouts, Sodomka will recruit at NBH and Boys and Girls Club, Mauritz, Hines and Purtell will recruit August 30th at orientation.  Having students recruit for support for the school, is generally very beneficial for our cause.  There are businesses in the area which are interested in supporting the school if they knew how.  Having a Humboldt Homecoming Parade may be something we consider in upcoming years.  We need to have fun events which builds school spirit.  We also need to plan for our 120th anniversary will be coming up within the next few years.  We need to plan for this celebration, the district needs to give us an exact date that Humboldt opened, there is some confusion surrounding when the school opened, because there was a Humboldt ALC school which was built on the flats and the Humboldt HS opened later.  Mergens is planning an alumni event for Homecoming.  The staff need to be approached for picking up the task of the Homecoming/Turf ribbon cutting for next year, Atkinson and Mergens will bring this before the staff.

VI. The Site Council recognizes the dedication of the Michael Schulze for his effort        above and beyond his call of duty.  Michael will be presented with a certificate        and letter acknowledging his efforts during opening week.

VII. Approval-by the Site Council to support the District’s choice of Mike Sodomka as            the Humboldt Senior High’s interim principal for the 2006-07 school year-   (Unanimous).
