Approval of Agenda –V. Atkinson a. Motion made by M. Sodomka, seconded by L. Rekonen. Unanimously approved. 2. Approval of a. Motion made by J. Purtell, seconded by B. Bellows. Unanimously approved. 3. Open Forum a. V. Atkinson: Hawk Crew Leaders: A council of 10-12 students who take on responsibilities in the school as far as representing the student body. One activity that they are heading up is the “Wow Cards”, which involves giving out cards to outstanding students and staff members. 4. New Membership a. Motion to nominate Kari Larson to the Site Council as a community member made by. S. Fields, seconded by Catherine Farrell. Unanimously approved. 5. Title I Update a. b. Title I dinner will be held on Thursday, November 1 from c. Title I is working through the PTO to reach out to parents. The PTO hopes to become an effective liaison and means of communication between the school’s staff and parents. The PTO will also work with the monthly newsletter. d. Humboldt did not make AYP this year, and because we receive Title I funding we were required to send out a letter to all parents informing them of their ability to transfer their students to another school. We are in year 2 of not making AYP. 6. Principal’s Report a. Student behavior: 10 fewer dismissals/suspensions this September than last September. b. Several staff members went to district safety training to prepare for a Worst Case Scenario. c. New radios will be purchased to replace the old ones in order to offer clearer communication. d. Humboldt is the City Champions in boys varsity Soccer. The quarter-finals will be here on Saturday at e. It’s Homecoming Week! Coronation is Tuesday at f. Professional Development Communities have been g. Oct. 1 child count: 884 students. (4 more students than projected) h. Humboldt received additional $30,000 from the district which is being spent on keeping staff members who are shared between the Junior High and Senior High. i. 2 ½ AmeriCorps Volunteers are working here at Humboldt. They are working with ELL, j. Oct. 17 will be a day of testing. 9th Grade: Explore test (career interest and academic), 10th Grade: PLAN (career interest, and academic), 11th Grade: PSAT k. Humboldt in the news: The soccer team has been in the paper, on KQRS, and 1500. Our weather bug is featured on Channel 5. Our Friendship Club was “sainted” in the Pioneer Press. l. Minnesota Computers for Schools and Ecolab will be giving Humboldt 24 laptop computers. m. Conferences will be on Thursday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 16from n.
