Humboldt High School Site Council Meeting Monday, February 12, 2007 Present: John Hines (co-chair, parent), Lauren Rekonen (secretary, teaching staff), Mike Sodomka (Acting Principal), Sam Buffington (community), Joe Laconic ( teaching staff), Kandy Hedlund (parent), Bonnie Bellows (teaching staff), Jackie Lundgren (non-teaching staff, alternate), Preston McMillan (teaching staff, union), Dave Mergens (teaching staff), Jennifer Purtell (parent), Marilyn Mauritz (teaching staff), Derby Campo (non-teaching staff) Not present: Valerie Atkinson (co-chair, non-teaching staff), Tim Hausker (non-teaching staff), student representatives I. Approval of Agenda: J. Hines a. Motion made by M. Sodomka, seconded by K. Hedlund, unanimously approved. II. Approval of January 8, 2007 minutes: J. Hines a. Motion made by M. Sodomka, seconded by K. Hedlund, unanimously approved. III. Open Forum a. D. Mergens: April 16th is the date to begin construction on the new field. This will send some of our spring sports off site. Set to be complete by August 6th, 2007. b. D. Mergens: SnoDaze is this week. Coronation is tomorrow (2/13/07) and is open to parents. Friday after school there will be a student vs. staff basketball game and a dance/open gym afterwards beginning at 5:30-8:30. This differs slightly from previous years where the basketball game was held during school and the dance did not include open gym. c. Sam Buffington: The Site Council is on the WSCO meeting’s agenda tonight at 7:30. The WSCO is planning to develop an after-school rec center. IV. Representative from the District Office of Leadership Development. a. No representative from the District Office of Leadership Development present. V. Principal’s Report - M. Sodomka-20 min. a. Capital improvement requests have been put in for Phase II (new entrance and library, updated carpet, lighting , and auditorium) b. BST testing last week for those students who had not yet passed the test. c. Conferences last week had a great turnout d. Parent information fair was a great opportunity to advertise our school. e. Showcase night at Humboldt was a success. About 20 families visited. f. Americorps workers here at Humboldt will continue to work here next year. g. AVID will continue next year and will expand to 12th grade next year. h. End of 2nd trimester is on March 8th, which is also an early release day. Finals will be on Tuesday and Wednesday (that Thursday is the early release day and Friday is a staff development day.) i. Band concert on March 13th in the auditorium at 7:00. j. The district is having a Career and Tech-Ed day on Thursday, 2/15/07. District employees will be here enjoying lunch in our Hawk’s Café, our student-run café. k. The District’s Strategic Plan meeting had a turnout of 123 people who signed in and was considered to be a success. VI. New Business a. J. Hines: Principal search has not moved ahead yet. The representative from the district who was supposed to come and help us with the process and procedure did not show up tonight. VII. Adjourn a. Motion to adjourn made by J. Hines, seconded by S.
