  1. Approval of December 8, 2008 minutes- by Zimmerman, 2nd by Laconic

  1. Open Forum

·           Babcock:  concerned about Hawk Café opening and concern about waste, not actually a concern.  Very little food is being wasted with the reservation system.  Also prom dresses are being made in her class, which haven’t happened in several years.  District staff will also be surveying staff in regards to using digital cameras.

·           Atkinson:  discussed PSAT results with 11th grade, PLAN discussion with 10th coming soon, 2nd round of MCA-II on-line reading exam is currently in process.  Finally, Valerie and ELL staff noticed ELL students are making significant growth on their MCA scores.

·           Laconic:  Automotive applications to physics was presented to physics students.  He envisioned more hands-on projects with the new school format.

·           Schilling:  The athletics has been doing Center Plate fundraising at the Metrodome.  PTA is also involved.  Training session at the dome.  Must have 12 people at the booth and the profits could be split among the clubs represented.  ~$70 per individual per shift.  More people doing it creates more opportunities for money.  Football made thousands of dollars last year.  We need to coordinate this with all the clubs and activities.  Anthony Minus is coordinating it at Humboldt Senior High School.

  1. Public Achievement Group:  Cari is the Public Achievement coach.  3rd hour project is working to beautify the outside of the school.  James wants to beautify the exterior of the school.  Plain front grounds.  Have a drawing contest to beautify the pillar, with a new item instead of a black and orange hawk.  Wanted to show Humboldt Pride, but also that we’re an environmental school, currently don’t feel the environmental aspect in our school.  Want to add benches at the front.  Also want to add picnic tables and recycling areas for everyone on the greenscape near the front entrance of the school.  Add stairs and ramps for access.  Also add flags at the front entrance, to show off the AVID, AP, College Access Programs….at the front door, to show there is positive things going on here.  Wondering if there has been any contact from the Center for Changing Landscape regarding their plans.  The students have laid out ideas for beautifying, they did not search out pricing yet, but they will be seeking out funders.  The students have picked up on the Changing Landscapes ideas by modifying to Humboldt flags instead of college flags as in their proposal.  No discussions have occurred with the district.  Little input has been received by the Center for Changing Landscapes, other than their blue print.  Past experience with district has involved a request to not have items they have to care for, instead of mow.  Big potted plants, recycling areas and a fountain are wishes.  Anticipate arguments from the district and plan counter arguments.  Also you should come before the PTO, so they are aware of the plans.  This proposal seems more realistic than the Changing Landscape proposals.  The University is waiting for our feedback and we’ll contact them.  Questions in regards to irrigation plans for plants, but the student plan doesn’t involve plants.
