Open Forum:

Tony and Jerry co-chairs the Humboldt H Club – 270 people coming to the dinner tomorrow night and recognize the baseball team that went to state.

Developed a scholarship

Working on raising funds – golf tourney Aug. 2nd – raising $ for the athletic teams at Humboldt

Here today to talk about the cutback of the Athletic Dept.

Ruiz said that we have more sports than Harding in comparison.

They are concerned that Humboldt is going to a half time athletic director.  Ruiz has officiated for years here at Humboldt.  Ruiz is here to express his opinion that a half –time athletic director won’t cut it at Humboldt.

Jerry spoke: Humboldt and Arlington are both getting their athletic director positions cut.

2005-2006 numbers were up but participation in sports was less.   Currently the participation in sports is up – possibly due to good leadership?

Mike: We are seeking $ from other sources to fund a full time athletic director position.

Question: is this a citywide cut?

Mike: $40,000 is needed to fund a full time position.  It is district funding.

Schilling:  suggested to go to the school board

Question: When is the date for the final decision of the position of the athletic director.

Answer, Mike S: The 19th of May is that last day for the decision of athletic director

Bev Babcock: received textiles that are organic have been received to incorporate into a new class for next year for the Environmental School

Schilling:  PTO will be providing deserts and snacks for the teachers between the end of the school day and conferences.

Moses: SCIP – A lot of the SCIP will not change.  Curriculum pieces haven’t been worked out yet.  Take 15 minutes and go over the SCIP as a group.

Q: Have the demographics stayed the same?

A: Yes.

Free and reduced lunch families have been a little less willing to fill out the form because of their undocumented status. So, numbers have been going down.  Not just projected numbers but currently.

2-3 comments per page – go page by page was suggested by V. Atkinson.

Page 1: Community Partnerships include the relationship with Hamline also include the environmental partnerships – Catherine would know

Administrator notes: 6 year plan – drop we are really not using it and stick with Naviance – take “6 year plan” out and put in Naviance

Naviance is a program the guidance office is using – it tracks the number of kids that are

B Montgomery – put an explanation of Naviance in the plan for those of us who don’t know it.

V. Atkinson: The first time you use an acronym it should be spelled out and then can be used from there.

B. Babcock: page 1 include clothing, textile in with the courses that are FACS courses (family and consumer science)

Page 2: more outcomes that include the 7th and 8th grades?

B. Montgomery – just include Humboldt Complex

A. Atkinson – include “through” Naviance instead of “by”

Page 3: Environment for learning paragraph it refers to academy and we no longer have academy.  Delete advisory curriculum – we no longer have that. Staff and professional development paragraph do we want to include that we are working towards an AVID demonstration site – meaning that AVID is throughout the bldg and those would support the environmental program.  A: We are not there yet – or have not been designated as an official demonstration site yet.

Page 4: Take out the “6 year plan” – strategy 3

Talks about the Sr. High again – can we put in Jr. High

Moses: We need to come up with a name yet. It can’t be called Humboldt Jr or Humboldt Sr. High under NCLB

It used to be called Humboldt Secondary Complex – this could be a placeholder.

Page 4: Curriculum content (P. MacMillan) hole being current with the times and technology.  It is not talking about technology just with a part-time technology coach.  There should be more technology rigor.  It should be put more with the school opportunities back on the 1st page.

Are we talking about more technology or philosophy?

More stuff related to technology?  How is technology being integrated into all departments?

We will be adding a part-time technology coach in addition to our full time tech person (Michael Schulze).

Wording change “in addition to a full time tech person we are adding a part- time tech coach”.
