Principal's Perspective in student newspaper

Welcome back!  I hope you’ve had a relaxing spring break!  We need to hit the ground running and create successes ahead.

It’s spring time and we’ve been planting the seeds for our future, you as individuals and you as part of our school.  I look forward to having you all come back and share your life stories such as our recent ceremony for former Humboldt Senior High School student and World War II veteran, Richard Thill.  Richard joined the Navy Reserves in his junior year of high school and ended up firing the first shots at Pearl Harbor.  Humboldt Senior High will be a different school when you come back.  We’ll soon be harvesting the fruits of our labor.  Humboldt’s new mural on the north wall which is beginning over spring break is a start of our evolution

To ensure we all have a bountiful harvest, I need your help.  We have the MCA-II’s coming up in the coming weeks.  Like always, get a good night sleep, eat breakfast and study and do your best.  Your success reflects on all of us.  We also have the A/B honor roll assembly coming up.  If you weren’t invited to the ceremony, reflect on why and choose a path which will promote greater success.  We also have prom coming up-use your brain and do the right thing!  Using your brain at social events and on the MCA-II’s establishes healthy roots for future growth.

As Humboldt establishes its new roots in the coming years, we’re planning to have common over-arching themes which you will be engaged in across the curriculum.

The year will look like this:

·           1st Quarter: The River, Gardens and Agriculture

·           2nd Quarter: Energy/Transportation

·           3rd Quarter: Ecosystems/Biomes

·           4th Quarter: Gardens/Agriculture (this will continue in the fall)

In addition to this, we’ll be expecting every student to use AVID strategies and you’ll experience them in every class.

Humboldt’s environmental studies and college/career prep focus will have noticeable impact in your classes.  Make good choices for your prosperous future.  We’re working together to create a school which is even better.  Creating the world you want to live in is work, as is the evolution of the new Humboldt.  I’m looking forward to sharing the wealth of our hard work as we persevere together.
