The PTO has committed to making new thrones, a new cape for the King, and embroidered sashes for the winners. Jo Schlief had previously said that she has someone to work on the thrones. Carol Day picked up the old cape and is working on a new one. Another parent committed to the sashes at the previous meeting. Debbie Luna will checking with that parent. Mr. Sodomka reported that the school does have a embroidery machine but they aren’t sure how to use it. Discussion about either getting a manual for it or contacting other schools to see if there is someone who could explain how to use it. The next PTO meeting is scheduled on February 2. At that time we will check the status of the Sno Daze projects we have committed to and make sure that everything is done in time for the coronation. Alice Rhines was asked to let us know at that time if parent help is needed for decorating for the coronation. If it is needed the time commitment would be for Monday, February 9 at 5:45 pm in the gym. Prom is scheduled for April 25, 2009. Students will be voting on a theme on Tuesday, January 6. He will also check with Dairy Queen about possibly getting Dillybars for the party. Arleen Schilling will make contacts to see about tickets for a Twins game for all the seniors. Mr. Sodomka will look into adding a suggestion box on the website so that we can get additional input from students. Based on previous years parties it is anticipated that there will be approximately 70 students attending the party. Students were encouraged to talk about the party with other seniors to encourage participation. Finances are in place for this years party. It is important that we work on raising cash to ensure that next years party has adequate funds. We raised $585 with the November Herbergers Community Day. We will have another opportunity in May to raise additional funds through the Community Day. A prize incentive will be used to get students to participate in the Community Day coupon book sale. We need to communicate about the ability to raise funds by working at the Metrodome concessions in conjunction with athletics. We will need to have a student request donations from Ecolab for the party. They have consistently supported the party and we anticipate that they will again contribute. Letters need to be sent out seeking donations. A draft letter will be put together. In order to do this we need to identify who the contacts will be to accept the donations. We are looking for at least two people to take on this responsibility. We would like to include both a phone number and at least one email address where donors could contact us. This letter needs to be ready by the February meeting. Letters to parents will be done in coordination with the school. The District has the ability print, stuff , label and mail letters for us. We will need to pay the cost. Brief discussion on how to get those new to the PTO to come back to future meetings. In addition to email notices personal phone calls will be tried. The next meeting will be at 5:30 on February 2, 2009. Note: This is a time change from 5:45.
