Awards are piling up

Sahmad is a junior at Humboldt Sr. high school. He is an outstanding young man, one which all should emulate. Sahmad was awarded the Minnesota Youth of the Year from the Boys and Girls club. The award was for an excellent club member and also for a person who did a lot for their community. He competed against eight other fourteen years and over individuals from different Boys and Girls Clubs. Sahmad was a  rare junior recipient. The criteria for this award was each individual had to give a speech based on six topics; Family, School involvement, Community involvement, Service to club and two other topics. Each individual also had to give an interview about the previous six topics. He received the award on January 22, 2009. The regional competition will be announced shortly. Nakumbe started going to the Boys and Girls club in the summer of 2004. He has always gone to the Westside of St. Paul Boys and Girls club. He went everyday he could and would stay until close. When asked what his favorite part of the Boys and Girls club is he responded; "The programs Boys and Girls Club offers. Like Career Launch, Job Ready, and Money Matters." Sahmad participates in Multicultural Excellence Program, Educational Talent Search, Spanish Club, Friendship Club, Band, Theatre, Junior Class Council, Honor Role, Football, Wrestling and Baseball at Humboldt. Sahmad is planning for a post secondary education but is undecided on where he will attend. Nakumbe plans to major in sports medicine.
